On April 19th, the duo formed by the royal holding Al Mada and the Chinese company CNGR started construction work on their factory for components of electric vehicle batteries in Jorf Lasfar. A month later, during a forum held in Casablanca, the progress and ambitions of the Cobco (Core Battery Components) project were presented.

This provides an overview of the gigafactory project collaboration between Al Mada and CNGR, highlighting the start of construction and a forum held to discuss the project’s progress and ambitions.

The royal holding Al Mada, through one of its directors Zineb Zeryouhi, recently provided an update on the joint project with the Chinese company CNGR. This project consists of an industrial unit for the production of components for electric vehicle batteries, which we first reported in March 2023.

Zeryouhi’s presentation took place during a forum organized on May 15 by the Federation of Chemistry and Parachemistry and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE).

As a reminder, the project will include units for the production of LFP and NMC components, as well as facilities for recycling black mass. The CNGR-Al Mada duo will be part of the gigafactory supply chain, which will be a key element of the ecosystem that Morocco aims to develop.

At Jorf Lasfar, it aligns with the OCP group’s program, which plans to specialize in chemistry in this area. Besides Al Mada-CNGR, the Chinese company Tinci is also setting up its factory at Jorf Lasfar.

In front of specialists and media who covered the presentation, Zineb Zeryouhi revisited the information previously shared by Al Mada, CNGR, and confirmed the name of the industrial complex Cobco for Core Battery Components.
